We had a few old tires sitting around our yard that we weren't sure what to do with. I remembered seeing a few planters online made of them and decided they would be a nice addition to our yard. They are situated near our fire pit and are planted with mosquito repelling plants... citronella, marigolds, and catnip (I would not plant anything in these that you were intending on eating unless you used some sort of food safe liner). We used Krylon spray paint and applied only one layer to each tire. Just a note about colour selection though, we just stopped in at our nearest Canadian Tire to get the spray paint and they only had the dark blue (I had wanted a lighter blue to match the shade of one of my patio lanterns) but when I was recently at Michael's craft store, I saw that their selection of Krylon spray paint was very big! Next time I'm looking for a specific colour, I'll be headed there. Overall, a quick project (longest part is waiting for the paint to dry), a neat way to use up old tires that are no longer safe for the road, and an interesting addition to any yard.
